On Foot

As you can see from the map above, Sucre is not that big.  You can visit most places in the city on foot.  Most of the things you’ll probably need will be located near the main plaza: Plaza 25 de Mayo.

By Bus/Micro

  • Plenty of buses/micros to take you around the city.  They usually have a number or a letter, or the name of the destinations showing on the windshield.  Costs about 1-1.50Bs. (July 2012)

By Taxi

  • Taxis cost around 4-5Bs to take you around the city, including the bus terminal. (July 2012)

By Tourist Bus or Private Transportation

  • There are plenty of tour agencies around the city.  You’ll probably need to take this option to get to places outside the city such as Tarabuco or Cal Orck’o.

By Train/Tram

  • Another option to get to Potosi from Sucre is to take a “train.”.  The journey takes 6-7 hours, twice as long as taking a bus, but the scenery is supposed to be beautiful.  It departs from Sucre only 3 times a week: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 8:00AM (from Potosi to Sucre on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday at 8:00AM).  The station is located in El Tejar (take bus #6 from Sucre).  Cost 25Bs.  Official website of the train company: FCA. (July 2012)
